Intresting article I found in the morning paper today

Post by admin on Tue Jun 08, 2010 4:43 am

While reading the morning paper over breakfast I found an intresting article in the Sun which made me laugh, so I though I'd come on here and tell you guys about it:

VIDEO GAMING TOP GUNS ARE TOP SLOBS TOO
Athletes in OAP bodies

Elite video gamers have the reactions of fighter pilots - but the bodies of 60-year old smokers, tests revealed yesterday. The professional button bashers - who can earn tens of thousands of pounds a year in prize money and sponsorship - had impressive visual responses but shockingly low fitness levels.

Boffins put a gang of top 'cyber sportsmen' through their paces to see how they compared to professional athletes - and see if video gaming should be classed as a sport. The players had mental skills and psychological traits comparable to real athletes. They reacted to visual stimuli nearly as fast as fighter jet pilots.

But fitness levels were very low and comparable to either much younger or much older people. One top gamer in his twenties had a physique similar to an endurance athlete. But tests at the NEC Arena in Birmingham revealed he had the lung functin of a heavy smoker in his sixties.

Dr Dominic Micklewright, from the university of Essex, blamed the gaming lifestyle of spending up to ten hours a day in front of a screen. He said it was an 'occupational hazard' warning: 'It could have long-term health risks such as an increased risk of heart disease'. But he said gamers and athletes are 'pretty close' in reaction time, motor skill and competitiveness. Dr Micklewright also warned kids who spend too much time in front of a screen may face health risks later in life.

Taken from the Sun Tuesday, June 8, 2010

Hope you guys find that as interesting as I did!

Finally! Something I can tell my parents that I benefit from by playing the 360! I can see it now!
'Right off the 360 now!'
'Mum, playing the 360 gives me the reactions of a fighter pilot as proved by Dr Dominic Micklewright. You can look it up if you want!'
'O... Ok... keep playing then...'

But what I've noticed is all of the MLG Halo 3 players seem to be really lanky XD
Well, there are some who are overweight, but quite a few are really thin

lol! Fair enough!

You do have to push your body to the extreme to be a darts player. I can't begin to imagine how many hours they must put into the gym to get their toned physique
